About this Course

Join in the practice of growing edible and medicinal mushrooms and their mycelium from logs salvaged by the City’s urban forestry operations. An overview of the cultivation process will be accompanied by a foundation of theoretical concepts and information to support a holistic understanding of the practice. At this hands-on workshop, participants will inoculate logs with Shiitake and Chicken of the Woods spawn. After workshop, the inoculated logs will be installed in the area formally known as the Farm in Queen’s Park to grow. Delicious edible, medicinal mushrooms will contribute to creating habitat for plants, animals, invertebrates and microbes. By mimicking fungal ecology in the installation, participants can help to establish self-supporting and regenerative living systems in the new habitat area. Space is limited, registration is required.
